Writing for Rolling Stone

A few weeks ago I received an email from a representative at Rolling Stone inviting me to be a published industry expert as a member of their Culture Council 👀

A few weeks ago I received an email from a representative at Rolling Stone inviting me to be a published industry expert as a member of their Culture Council - apparently this means I have the freedom to write about more or less any relevant topic I’m interested in, especially in the music/tech worlds.

On top of that they have an invaluable network of amazing people in the industry I can connect with via an internal social media style app… I must say writing for Rolling Stone was not something I ever expected to do, but I am loving the experience of working with their editorial team and networking with likeminded people who have a lot to offer. My first article will be published within the next week or two and breaks down what NFTs are + how they’re massively impacting the music industry right now - this is something I’m really stoked about all around.

My profile on Rolling Stone can be seen here as well as the full press release via PennyFly here.

Pepperdine’s Most Fundable Companies

Pepperdine University here in Malibu hosts an annual “most fundable companies” program where eligible startups engage in Pepperdine’s intensive due diligence review to determine how fundable they are based on traction, growth, revenue, and potential. Companies who place highly and make the final list often attract private capital towards expansion as a result 💪🏼

…I am beyond thrilled to share that PennyFly Entertainment has placed in the top 100 out of the over 4,500+ companies considered - we are also the only record label they have ever recognized in this capacity 📀🔥

Pepperdine is ranked among the top universities in the United States, including high praise from Forbes magazine who ranked the Graziadio School's Fully Employed MBA programs in the world's Top 20 based on ROI.

We are thrilled to share that PennyFly Entertainment has placed in the top 100 out of the over 4,500+ companies considered - we are also the only record label they have ever recognized in this capacity. Due to the high risk factors of any entertainment based venture, it is rare for companies in our industry to receive acknowledgement in the mainstream business world - our team is beyond humbled and we can’t wait for another amazing year of growth in 2021.

Welcome.

How the heck is everybody!?!? Welcome to the new website!! I know it’s been a while since a lot of you have had proper updates on all things JP, so I’m super excited to fill you in on EVERYTHING that has been going on - from founding a successful label platform for artists to getting involved in some incredible projects, click below and I’ll tell you all about it 🙃

How the heck is everybody!?!?

Well, let me start by addressing the massive elephant in the room… “WHERE ON EARTH HAVE YOU BEEN!?”

Short answer? Building. …Building what you ask?

Ever since my first two years in LA making a living as a musician, I experienced first-hand the many ways the industry fell short in terms of how artists were treated. As someone who had previously been minoring in business alongside running a marketing firm with my wife, I began to wonder what the secret sauce was that major labels had - how do they create international superstars with such precision? Of course the Katy Perrys and Ed Sheerans of the world are incredibly talented, but what is required on the business side to pull everything off?

Without overcomplicating it (that would be a separate post entirely), the answer is relationships.

Thus began my journey of founding PennyFly Entertainment, a by-artists-for-artists record label platform. This effort spiraled into a venture larger than I ever anticipated, quickly growing to provide recording and marketing services to dozens of artists while I continued to network around the industry. I was inspired to find that many long-time veterans within the business agree that artists deserve better treatment - they offered me their support and the more word got around, the more doors opened up.

From building up Rock Against Trafficking and Loud Waves Studios with producer Gary Miller to working with countless artists and getting involved on the ground level of StarCrowd (Producer Poo Bear’s brainchild), the opportunities to have a real impact in the industry have been nothing short of incredible. The fruits of our labors recently culminated with one of the top 20 business schools in the world recognizing us as one of the top 100 most investment-worthy companies in the entire country…!

While I have continued to record original music along the way with PJ Bianco (and Gary ofc), I simply haven’t had the emotional or mental capacity to properly focus on pushing myself as an artist while growing the business, managing other artists, and networking.

As you may have guessed by the fact you’re reading this post on this new website, I am thrilled to report that is now changing 🙃

My first official release since embarking on the label venture is “You Are Not Alone”, an incredible charity project I’m blessed to be a part of on both the artist and marketing sides which you can read more about here [huge collab with over 20+ major artists from around the world!]. While I don’t have a definitive release date just yet for the new original music I’ve been putting together, I am currently offering pre-release mixes of full tracks to those who sign up for the VIP email list on the homepage - you can also listen to a mashup reel showcasing some of these unreleased tracks on the music page. I’m also stoked share brand new Music Is The Only Medicine merch - on sale for launch!

I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting me along the way (even when I seemingly disappeared as an artist)… yet you continued to express excitement for new music whenever the time was right. It has really meant a lot and has genuinely inspired me to prioritize making music again. I couldn’t be more excited about the new direction my sound is taking on this new album; it truly represents the ‘retro-electro’ piano rock style I’ve always aimed to define in my own crazy way.

Thank you all again - not just for your inspiration but for joining me on this incredible and unpredictable journey 🙏🏼 We are just getting started … and the best is yet to come!

Warmest regards,
~j3tt
